Digging up the Past: Names from Coptic Sources
Many biblical, Greco-Coptic, and indigenous names are found in Egypt in the 7th-8th C. The most common name formations will be discussed. Knowledge of the Greek alphabet is desirable.
Students should bring Paper and pen if wanted

Device design, or "a quick and easy method to design your device"
The class will detail a simple way to design a basic personal device, through a useful methodology that anyone (even non-heraldic types) can utilize. It will present a review of basic heraldry (to establish a reference frame), then demonstrate design techniques, and, finally, how to add some extra style to further personalize or give that added panache.

Submissions and the Local Herald
This class is an overview on the submissions process from start to finish and how the local herald can be involved from start to finish, following the process of the submission along the way. Local heralds are encouraged to attend, as this class goes into more detail than most warranting classes on the subject.

This class discusses heraldic achievements in Ansteorra and their registration for the various award levels. It will also include some historical examples of achievement components and artwork.

Come and learn one of the most marketable skills in the SCA! I will teach a comprehensive course that will allow any willing student to understand the mechanics, basic rules and etiquette of List field heraldry. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO HAVE A BIG VOICE TO SITE HERALD! So even the quietest of students is welcomed.

This class provides a basic overview of overall trends affecting naming practices in Ireland during our period and goes into detail regarding the interactions between the cultural groups, and how that affected their naming practices. (Handout will also be available online.)

This class gives an overview of Irish family names and how to adapt that model to create a name for an SCA household or clan. Based on how the group wishes to use their household name, different construction styles will be better choices. (Handout will also be available online.)

This class is an overview of the most common name constructions across multiple languages and cultures, including period examples. It addresses pattern changes over time as well as many misconceptions. (Handout will also be available online.)

Wearable Heraldry - The Basics of Using Heraldry on Clothing
An overview of the uses of heraldry on clothing worn in the SCA and methods for application. This class will focus on methods for putting heraldry on various garments rather than the construction of garments.

History of Ansteorran Awards, Insignia, and Precedence
Have you ever wondered where all of Ansteorra's awards come from? Why the insignia for the Iris is a rainbow ribbon, not a flower? What the difference is between an award and an order? This lecture class will present an historical survey of Ansteorra's awards and orders, explaining their evolution, insignia, and context, as well as briefly discussing Ansteorra's ceremonial offices (Queen's Champion, King's Champion, etc.) and the Society-wide ranks and orders (royalty, nobility, & peerage). We'll use visual aids, and possibly provide a handout. The handout is NOT a substitute for attending class.

Silk Banner Painting
Spend the day learning the art of silk painting. This class is designed for groups of people (Baronies, Fighting companies, Households, etc) to work together to start and hopefully finish a project over the course of a day. I will teach all the basic techniques for painting a heraldic banner.
  1. 2 silk pieces from Dharma Trading Company (http://www.dharmatrading.com) - one of these is a back-up in case of accident. Some ideas:
  2. 1 frame for the silk to be stretched on. (once your group is on the reservation list, I will help you determine what size your frame needs to be. Frame is made of 2X4s, screws and L brackets)
  3. Design for your banner
    • Printed Heraldic art sized for your banner (heraldic art should be use strong lines without a lot of fine detail - think coloring book or stained glass)
  4. A way to stretch your silk one of the following ways (I will discuss the proper style of stretching for your silk piece once you are on the list)

Lenght for the Class is 8 hours. This is an all day project from start to finish

Limit:3 - 4 Groups, at least 3 people per group
